Cyclists in Trondheim, Norway, have it pretty easy when it comes to hills. This lift will take you straight to the top, for a small fee.

This is a great idea; the lift probably pays for itself pretty quickly, it’s unobtrusive and it’s probably going to encourage more cyclists.

If I had a hill like that on the way to work I might think twice about riding in. But with a lift, no problem, plus you get to ride down on the way home. Excellent.

bike in liepzig

I visited a friend of mine in Liepzig at the weekend, and we cruised around the city on bikes looking for restaurants. I was honored to be lent ‘Black Thunder’, a hundred year old steel monster, whilst my friend used his soulless new mountain bike.

No gears, no brakes, no lights, lots of creaks, hard work and great fun.

It’s a great city for bikes because there’s virtually no cars there. They do have lots of trams though, and you have to watch out for those tracks because they’re exactly the right size to get stuck in.

Watch out for the police as well - there’s a 30 Euro fine for riding without lights (which everyone does). Apparently most people try to run if they get pulled over, so I assume that the penalty isn’t too harsh if you get caught trying to escape.
